THE WALLED CITY OF MALTA
Wander the labyrinthine streets of one of Europe's finest examples of a walled city, Mdina. Once the capital of Malta, and home to noble families since the 12th century, Mdina is graced with grand palaces and beautiful churches. This Compass & Key itinerary includes Roman-era archaeological treasures, spectacular island views, and the best in Maltese cuisine. Mdina is open to visit anytime, but the soft glow in the evenings is truly magical. Book ahead for dinner in the courtyard of The Medina Restaurant (closed Mondays).
Consider extending this itinerary out to a full day with a 6-mile walk leading into Mdina. Explore the Dingli Cliffs, fertile valleys and churches of the Maltese countryside. To end your day in Mdina, take this walking route backwards, starting at the Dingli Cliffs interpretation center. Download the walking brochure here and peruse other countryside walks on the Vista Malta website.
