The highest point in the park, Clingmans Dome, is also the highest point in Tennessee and a popular destination for incredible views of the Smoky Mountains. Start your day before sunrise for the 50-minute drive from Gatlinburg and you may have it to yourself. After your visit, Compass & Key recommends traveling to nearby Kephart Prong trail.
Make sure to bring extra layers as the temperature can be significantly cooler at this high elevation.

TRAIL NOTES
CURRENT WEATHER
A note on weather from the park service: “Temperatures can vary 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit from mountain base to top, and clear skies lower down do not guarantee equally pleasant weather at higher elevations. Some prior planning and weather-wise clothing will help ensure an enjoyable visit during any season.” Learn more about weather conditions here.
